From Freo’s Cappuccino Strip, it is a short walk to The Esplanade: The Esplanade Hotel was built in about 1880 as a private residence and modifications made for it to be a hotel in 1895. Across the road, is The Esplanade – a public, grassed open space.
On the other side of The Esplanade is Fremantle’s famous Fishing Boat Harbour, popular day or night, with its indoor/outdoor restaurants overlooking the harbour. Fremantle is well-known for its public displays of art and statues, and galleries. Here you will find statues of fishermen and a memorial statue of Bon Scott – lead vocalist and lyricist of AC/DC who died in 1980. New to us, a yellow statue at the back of Cicerello’s. Nearby is the birth place of the popular Little Creatures Brewing company – in the structure originally used to house 200.crocodiles (the long gone, Fremantle Crocodile Park).
